We have 10 varieties of tall bamboo that are hardy in the Willamette valley, available in pot sizes from 10 to 25 gallon (bring a truck) and are well established. These are all running bamboo, some much faster than others. Some are adaptable to being kept in containers, others are adept at breaking their containers or sneaking out the drainholes. Their buyer should be prepared for these eventualities and plant accordingly.
At this time we have one variety of clumping bamboo called Dragonshead Bamboo, a Fargesia species which grows to about 10 feet with 1/2" culms. It prefers partial shade but will tolerate full sun better than most clumpers. It becomes very thick and dense with an arching form and it will never come up on the other side of the driveway. We also have a couple of short growing varieties of bamboo, running types but easily contained.
